HBA CHARITABLE & EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES PAUL AND CHERYL ROBERTSON SCHOLARSHIP

BINGHAM FARMS, Mich. – February 2, 2021 – The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Southeastern Michigan’s Charitable & Educational Foundation is pleased to announce the establishment of the HBA Skilled Trades Scholarship Fund.

Formed specifically to support young people who will become the next generation of construction workers in southeastern Michigan, the fund’s establishment was made possible, in part, by a generous endowment of $50,000 by Paul and Cheryl Robertson.

The Robertson Honorary scholarship is the largest, of up to ten scholarships, to be awarded annually. Beginning later this year, the Foundation will award scholarships to deserving individuals, aged 18 to 25 years, who are pursuing a construction career by either working for a residential builder or subcontractor, studying in post-secondary residential construction skilled trades training or enrolled in a two-year college degree program in the area of construction.

“For 75 years Robertson Homes has depended on our great trade base to enhance our reputation for high quality homes,” says Paul C. Robertson Jr. “Cheryl and I want to provide scholarships and encouragement to young people to get the education and skills to explore a career in the trades. We feel it is a wonderful way to earn a good living and provide employment stability for their family and future.”

The opportunity to apply for scholarship consideration through this fund will be announced to all known high school trades programs across Michigan as well as post-secondary training centers and two-year collegiate programs that offer courses and degrees in areas directly related to home construction. A team of HBA Foundation board members and major donors to the scholarship fund will determine the scholarship winners from among applications submitted each year. “The HBA Skilled Trades Scholarship Fund allows our Foundation to contribute in a meaningful way to strengthening the residential construction industry,” said Peter K. Burton of Dominion Realty Services and Foundation President. “By getting youth interested and then helping them to pursue careers in the skilled trades, we help give back to the industry that has helped many of us.”

Since its inception in 1991, the Foundation has made over $1.7 million in grants to support housing and education in southeastern Michigan. Gifts to the Foundation are fully tax deductible and are welcomed from industry professionals and others.

The Home Builders Association (HBA) of Southeastern Michigan’s Charitable & Educational Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) charity whose mission includes support of programs to improve the availability of housing opportunities for all persons, to combat community deterioration and promote educational programs in support of housing. The Foundation provides HBA of Southeastern Michigan members, as well as others who are active in the residential construction industry, the option of supporting a charity that is aligned with their profession.

Headquartered in Bingham Farms, HBA of Southeastern Michigan and Apartment Association of Michigan (AAM) are trade associations representing 1,400 builders, remodelers, multi-family property owners, developers and suppliers to the single family and multi-family residential construction industry. HBA is affiliated with the HBA of Michigan in Lansing and the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, D.C.
